A Lifetime of Song
On Friday, February 21, 2025, Kyrenia Opera honors Cyprus’ Queen of Opera, Ioli Mousteri.
Born in Limassol, Ioli Mousteri is a distinguished soprano and educator. Mousteri’s early training was in Italy, where she earned diplomas in monody, melodrama directing, and Italian literature, before obtaining a piano degree from the National Conservatory of Athens. Her illustrious performance career spanned throughout Italy, Yugoslavia, Greece, and Cyprus, and included prizes in several singing competitions.
Mousteri’s book History of Music was published in 1975 for secondary school education. To the great fortune of the music community in Cyprus, Mousteri co-founded the Cyprus Lyric Stage in 1981, serving as its first artistic director. Mousteri oversaw every aspect of production and provided invaluable opportunities and experience for aspiring Cypriot singers.
