THE 2024 KYRENIA OPERA CYPRUS VOCAL COMPETITION APPLICATION | RULES, GUIDELINES & ELIGIBILITY

 

Rules, Guidelines & Eligibility

  • The 2024 Kyrenia Opera Cyprus Vocal Competition is open to classical singers who are legal residents of the United States or the European Union.
  • The competition is judged entirely by online submission of pre-recorded videos.
  • Applicants may apply regardless of current place of residence.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 and no more than 28 years of age, as of January 1, 2024.
  • Previous applicants are eligible to apply.

 Awards

  • First prize: $1000 to be used for advancement in classical singing.
  • Second prize: $500 to be used for advancement in classical singing.
  • Third prize: $250 to be used for advancement in classical singing.
  • The Cyprus Singer Award: $1000 was awarded on April 24, 2024 to the Children’s Choir of the Ipsonas Municipality in Cyprus.

 Judging Criteria

  • A committee of voice professionals will select the winners.  
  • All contestants must perform/submit two arias or one aria and one song in different languages.
  • All selections must be sung in the original language.
  • Contestants will be judged on beauty of voice, technical skill, musicality, diction, expression, potential for professional career, and overall performance.

 Video Recording Guidelines 

  • Videos must not have been recorded before January 1, 2024.
  • Pre-recorded accompaniments (piano/orchestra) are acceptable.
  • Any venue for video recording is acceptable.

Application Fee

A $45 USD non-refundable application fee is required upon completion of the application.

Deadline

All materials must be submitted no later than November 30, 2024. The winners will be announced by the end of 2024.

Disclosure

Special Awards may be granted based on the judges’ recommendations. The judges’ decision is final.

    Submit all Materials below:

    Video recordings of two contrasting arias or one aria and one song in two different languages. Provide links/url to the video recordings on any of the online storage services of your choice like YouTube, Dropbox, WeTransfer, iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc. (Ex. https://...) All selections must be sung in the original language.


    After you submit your application please send an email at cyprusvocalcompetition@kyreniaopera.org with:

    1. Proof of legal residency in the U.S. or EU: Passport, Birth Certificate or a permanent resident (green) card.
    2. Proof of age: Copy of Passport or Birth Certificate
    3. Current color photo or head-shot
